Who are we ?
The Electrophysiology and Heart Modelling Institute (L’Institut de RYthmologie et modélisation Cardiaque) – is a unique institute in the world dedicated to heart rhythm disorders. These rhythm disorders are the cause of many cardiovascular diseases which account for nearly a third of deaths worldwide. Its role is to provide research, innovation, care, education and training.
Liryc focuses on the better understanding and treatment of cardiac electrical disorders which are the cause of many cardiovascular diseases :
Atrial fibrillation, is the most common rhythm disorder, affecting more than 10 million people in Europe.
Ventricular fibrillationis primarily responsible for more than 50,000 sudden deaths in France each year or a sudden death every 10 minutes.
Heart failureaffects 9 million people in Europe, including 1 million in France, or 1 in 10 hospital admissions.
In order to meet this major public health challenge, Liryc brings together researchers, doctors, engineers, mathematicians, national and international expertsaround patients in a unique technological environment in a single institute.
The researchers are behind major scientific breakthroughs in the field of heart rhythm disorders.
